Electrovaya launches stationary energy storage system for data center market

Canadian lithium-ion battery developer Electrovaya has launched a new stationary battery energy storage system designed for the data center sector.. The ElvaPulse 1500 will be housed in a 20-foot modular container, delivering up to 2.88MWh of energy capacity and around 7MW of continuous power.

The battery is constructed around its proprietary ceramic separator technology that underpins its Infinity Battery line.. – Electrovaya. According to the company, the power-to-energy ratio allows the unit to discharge its full capacity in 30 minutes, above the 2-4 hour average. As a result, the company claims the unit will be better suited to supporting mission-critical operations, as one of the highest power-dense offerings on the market..

“Data centers and other mission-critical facilities are pushing the energy storage industry toward higher and higher power delivery, and ElvaPulse 1500 was purpose-built to meet that need,” said Raj DasGupta, CEO of Electrovaya.. “With up to 7MW of continuous power from a single 20-foot container, ElvaPulse 1500 offers the highest power density available in a stationary lithium-ion platform today, while bringing the proven safety and longevity of our Infinity Battery Technology to these demanding applications.”.

The company said it is in active discussions with hyperscale and energy developers on ElvaPulse deployments, and is accepting production reservations now. Deliveries from its Jamestown, New York, manufacturing facility are expected to commence in 2027.. Amazon partnership.

Last month, the company announced a commercial agreement with Amazon, expected to support the continued deployment of its battery technology, as well as foster greater collaboration on robotics and energy storage.. As part of the agreement, Amazon will receive warrants to purchase up to 13,880,345 common shares of Electrovaya, which become fully vested upon Amazon achieving cumulative future purchases of $280 million.. “Electrovaya’s Infinity Battery Technology has demonstrated real performance in demanding material handling environments, and this agreement with Amazon reflects our confidence in the opportunity ahead.

We look forward to building on that foundation in other industrial applications where safety and longevity are critical,” said DasGupta.. Electrovaya, based in Toronto, Canada, is a lithium-ion battery developer focused on industrial, robotics, defense, and energy storage applications.

The company’s Infinity battery energy storage systems are a modular system delivered within a 20-foot container and explicitly target grid, industrial, and data‑center support applications.. In April, the firm was selected to partner in a US Department of Energy (DOE) funded project, in which the firm will test the feasibility of integrating BESS within a data center environment..
