Snapchat launches Plans for organizing events with friends

Snapchat said on Thursday it is launching Snapchat Plans, a set of event-planning features that lets users create, share and manage in-person gatherings with friends.. The new tools allow users to send and receive invitations and track details including time, location and attendees in one place.

Snapchat said the features are designed for events such as birthday parties, sporting events, study sessions and weekend meetups.. Users can create a Snapchat Plan by adding a title, selecting a date and time, and inviting up to 200 friends. Invitations are delivered through one-on-one chats with each invited friend, and guests can respond with “Going,” “Maybe,” or “Can’t Go.”.

Snapchat is also adding a “My Plans” section to user profiles, where people can browse current, upcoming and past plans. Users who tap on a friend’s profile will also be able to see events they share with that friend.. After an event is created, hosts can track attendance, invite more friends and update event details.

Guests can view the full guest list, change their RSVP at any time and receive a reminder one hour before the event begins.. Snapchat Plans are private and invite-only, the company said in a blog post.. “No more missed get-togethers because of buried messages, lost details, or forgetting to create an invitation,” the company wrote in the post.

“Snapchat Plans make it easier to organize these special in-person moments with your friends.”. The launch puts Snapchat into a more crowded event-planning market that includes Partiful, a digital invitation platform, and Apple’s Invites app, which launched last year.. Featured image credit.
